Market is cooking!

Downtown condo sales keeping pace
Condominium sales in downtown Boston are keeping pace with sales from a year ago, according to preliminary figures for the first quarter by Otis & Ahearn, a Boston real estate brokerage and marketing firm.

But, O&A president Kevin Ahearn predicted that final sales for the quarter may surpass the record set in the first quarter of 2005, when 784 units sold. “The market is cooking,” he said.

Otis & Ahearn said 760 condos valued at $512 million sold, compared with 759 a year ago valued at $446 million. The median price surged by 7 percent, to $489,800.

“Small units in the South End to the super luxury at the top end are all increasing in pricing,” Ahearn said. “There’s very aggressive buying out there.” (Kimberly Blanton)
