Today MassHousing decided to loan $13.5M for another redevelopment of a public housing complex.  This time it is The Washington Beech Housing Complex, which is currently home to 266 public housing units, which will be demolished and replaced by 206 brand new affordable rental apartments.   Phase 2B of this project, which is where majority of the loan money is headed will provide Washington Beech with 56 affordable two, three, four and five bedroom townhouses and flat apartments amongst 7 different buildings. There will also be construction of a basketball court, two playgrounds and a grass area with tables and chairs.  There will be three phases, with the first one on pace to be completed by the summer.  They are thrilled to receive the funding from MassHousing, it will help them get closer to there current deadline of early 2012. The contractor is CWC Buildings Inc. located in Newton, the architect is Icon Architecture Inc. of Boston with the management agency will be Winn Residential of Boston.    I think its great that MassHousing has continued from time and time again to give out substantial loans.  Washington Beech definitely needs it and it will change these home drastically.
