There was a meeting Tuesday night regarding two new affordable housing units in Needham and just about 40 people that were in attendance showed interest in them. Out of the 40, only 3 applied for the lottery that will take place on July 20th. The deadline is nearing, as the expiration date for your applications is July 9th. In order to apply you must be a first time home buyer with no ties to the town of Needham and it is mandatory that each applicant meets the necessary maximum of $64,400 for a family of four. The two affordable units are a piece of a project called Craftsman Village at Needham Heights, which include four market rate units that were sold for $600,000 each. The two affordable units are currently priced at $196,500 and are smaller than the market rate condo’s. Each one has one bedroom, one and a half bathrooms and a two car garage. If you’re new to the affordable housing concept, its pretty much so the owners only pay taxes on the affordable price instead of the appraised value of the home, also they pay lower monthly association fees. The condos may not be sold for less than what the owner initially bought it for. Its a great concept for first time home buyers! Get a great condo at a low cost!
