Over the past 7 months, community development groups have reported and handled over 10,000 foreclosure prevention scams. These scammers are promising so much and doing close to nothing! So here are three signs that should trigger suspicion and will help you weave out the real and the fake.
Anyone asking for a fee upfront is probably a scam artist. Some people will ask you for fees ranging anywhere from $500 to $5000, once you pay the initial fee, chances are you will never hear from them again. They will take your money and run, without even attempting to negotiate with lenders.
Anyone who guarantees your foreclosure to stop right off the bat, is lying. Without information on the personal situation, they can never promise you anything. Its impossible for them to guarantee you stop of foreclosure. So don’t feed into it!
Anyone who is stressing for you to stop paying your mortgage and to start paying them is a scammer, they are just keeping the money flowing to them while they are pretending to modify the mortgage.
